Media Arts – M2 Blog Post #2 – Thoughts & Reactions – Final Media Arts Project

Pitch:

For my Final Media Arts Project pitch, I am very happy with the proposal and idea. Since I love to play video games on a daily basis, it was easy to want to do a Let’s Play on a favorite video game of mine. Video games are an emerging powerhouse in the media, and allowing me to provide commentary on my experience playing through it and on my opinions of the content that game has is a great opportunity. Doing it on Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon is added positivity because it is one of my favorite games, and a game I play to this day. I want to do make YouTube videos of video game Let’s Plays, so being able to practice that in this Final Media Arts Project is a great test. Distributing the Let’s Play on social media sites like YouTube and Facebook allow me to gain feedback and work on mastering the craft and perfecting future ones.

Budget:

For my budget, I am very happy and content with it. I do not have to purchase any extra equipment in order to produce my Video Game Let’s Play. I have my iPhone, iPhone tripod, Television, PlayStation 1 and Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon video game. I have also found other useful equipment that will be used to produce and create my Final Media Arts Project. I have two Targus tripods, one small and portable and one larger with more features, along with a Selfie Stick that I can combine to make a superior recording device for my iPhone. It is easier and more convenient for me to play the video game with the controller in my hand, and record the video game content with my tripods and iPhone.

Timeline:

The timeline I chose is still very accurate compared to what I have done in preparation for production and creation of it. I am very eager to continue the new steps of producing the Final Media Arts Project as I go along with the course. Doing a Video Game Let’s Play is always fun especially when I can do it on Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon. It is a game that I will always enjoy no matter when I play it, and doing it on a PlayStation 1, a video game console that has also been with me my whole life is a great compliment. Doing different assignments on this video game project allows me to expand my knowledge on the topic of Media Arts. Also, doing this project on something I really enjoy doing on a daily basis (video games) increases my comfort level on completing the variety of assignments given to perfect my project.

Storyboard:

I am very happy with the results of my Storyboard. I think it is very organized and provides a great blueprint of how to make the video. The order of events and content in the video game make the sequence of events of the major recordings easier to progress through. Celtx is a great storyboard tool because I was able to transfer my images easily into the program. As I have opportunities to tweak my Storyboard and add more shots and information to it, it will continue to enhance my project and improve the video. I think I am off to a great start with the storyboard because I got a variety of shots based on the events in the video, and the content was sequenced to where I am comfortable progressing through the game at a pleasant pace and have a very fun and positive experience.

Here is my created Storyboard for my Media Arts Project. Celtx does not allow me to attach the file to the blog page, so I had to take individual images of each storyboard shot. I made all of the Storyboard shots into a Slideshow of images to keep the chronological order.

Throughout the linear Storyboard, the emotional content of my video project has attitude/tone changes. My Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon Let’s Play storyline goes from sad in the beginning, switching back and forth from happy to sad in the middle, and back to happy in the end. The positive and negative content make the experiences of the video game fun and worth-while based on the variety of the video game’s storyline.

Media Arts – M2 Assignment – Short Video Sequence Creation

Here is the Short Video Sequence I created for my Final Project. For the Video Game Let’s Play, I chose Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon. I am knowledgeable and skillful at the game, I am comfortable providing commentary, and I can professionally showcase my experience(s) playing the game. I edited the sequence of pictures using iMovie. The pictures were taken using my iPhone and I got the pictures from my Television.

Media Arts – M2 Blog Post #1 – Skill Sets

For the genres I will be including in my final project, it will be a combination of digital storytelling, and virtual worlds/video games.

I own an iPhone, and I use it to record all of my video and audio, and take all of my pictures. My iPhone is very useful for creating videos of video games while also taking pictures of video games to illustrate my positive experiences. Interest in Collaboration (1-5): 5

I own iMovie, an iPhone application that I use for editing video content, including the video itself, audio and images. iMovie also allows me to create more refined videos out of the content I edited. I can then add more content to the video using the application’s features, including titles, sound effects and themes, turning everything into a final project. Interest in Collaboration (1-5): 5

I own Microsoft Office. I use Microsoft Word for creating scripts. I use my knowledge of scripting and Microsoft Word’s features to format the scripts correctly and provide the necessary information included in a script. Interest in Collaboration (1-5): 5

Along with Microsoft Word, I use Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets. Excel is new to me, but I have been experimenting with the features and content it has. I use spreadsheets to organize information and manage data. Interest in Collaboration (1-5): 3

I am very interested in continuing my passion of digital storytelling and creating videos of video game experiences. I am really interested in creating a digital story/Let’s Play video of a video game, because it will be a positive start for a hobby/interest in the future. I have wanted to create YouTube videos for a long time now, and in the future I want to create YouTube videos of my favorite video games showcasing all of their content and my experiences.

I have provided below my list of Skill Sets in an Excel Spreadsheet:

Media Arts – M1 Media Arts Project – Final Project Proposal

Project Pitch:

For my final media arts project, I am proposing to do a Let’s Play video of a video game that I am interested in. The Let’s Play most likely will include commentary, in addition to the video game content and my experience playing through it. The intended/target audience will be male and female gamers between the ages of 18 and 30. The exhibition and distribution plans will be to upload the project to YouTube to display the video, and share it with this blog and maybe Facebook to also play the video.

Detailed Project Proposal:

It will be a Let’s Play video of a video game I own. I will use my PlayStation One or PlayStation Two as my video game console in order to play the video game. I will use my Television to play the video game on my video game console. I will provide commentary during the video to provide my gaming experience playing the game, and also provide game content with music and sound effects that the game includes. I will use my iPhone to record the Let’s Play, commentary and gameplay along with the sounds and music, and make sure I get the best quality my iPhone will allow. I will use an iPhone tripod to stabilize my iPhone as I record my video game, while having me and my controller free in order to play the video game. I will also be using iMovie, an app for my iPhone, to edit the video and audio clip(s) and create the final project. After the final project is complete, I will upload the project to YouTube and share the video on my blog and maybe my Facebook page for the world to see.

The script will include my commentary, in addition to the video and audio clip(s) the game includes. The script will go through the whole short video and sequence of events from start to finish.

The project will be a documentary of my video game experience. The video game content contains nonfiction elements, but the project itself will be real events of me playing the video game and my experiences. It will be an interactive project, where I play the video game, and the video game will progress based on my inputs with the controller. I will provide narrative in this project, which will be my commentary explaining what I am doing, and showcasing my experience while I play the game for my whole project/video. The video game will be linear, where I play the part(s) of the video game from start to finish. The script, storyboard and video may be both linear and nonlinear, including the editing processes. I may do an experimental run-through of the video game that I am deciding on for this project, but I have complete knowledge of the video games I have and can smoothly progress through the video games for the video part(s) of the project.

There will most likely be no budget, as I have all the necessary things I need to create this project.

The Target Audience will be male and female gamers between the ages of 18 and 30. I feel like that audience will be the most interested in video game/Let’s Play videos. I want the final results to have my friends and new people appreciate the Let’s Play that I create. I want to replicate the quality and hard work that the popular Let’s Play YouTubers put into their videos.

The video game/Let’s Play experience will be a high-quality project that will showcase my ability to make Let’s Play videos. I want to be able to make YouTube videos of video game Let’s Plays more often in the future.

I will use a gaming setup I created that will be used as my recording and project environment, as well as my bedroom for my setting. 12654391_762168693928187_1362504961678673855_n
